Former Blackhawk Pitcher Kyle Amendt selected in MLB draft

Former Southeastern pitcher Kyle Amendt was selected in the 9th round of the 2023 MLB draft Monday, July 10th by the Arizona Diamondbacks. 

Amendt went 4-0 with a 0.45 ERA in 25 appearances for the Blackhawks in 2019 while also striking out 64 batters. Kyle went 2-1 with four saves and a 0.64 ERA in nine appearances for the Blackhawks in 2020 prior to COVID cutting the Blackhawks season short.

Following Southeastern, Amendt played baseball at Dallas Baptist (Texas) University where he would become a First Team All-American. In 2023, Kyle recorded 12 saves for the Patriots. In 23 relief appearances, he struck out 51 batters while allowing just 14 walks.

Kyle Amendt is the 16th Blackhawk in program's history to be selected in the MLB draft.
