SCC Sophomore Baseball Players Sign Division I

Five sophomore players from Southeastern Community College Baseball committed to national letter of intents to continue their education and play baseball after SCC.  All five players have a cummulative GPA of a 3.5 at Southeastern. 

Austin Martin- C and Zeb Adreon-1B/OF/LHP

Catcher, Austin Martin and First base, outfielder, left handed pitcher Zeb Adreon are signing with the University of Iowa.  Zeb hit .362 on the season and led the nation with 29 doubles, second in school history at Southeastern. Adreon contributed 56 RBI's and was named Second Team All Region. During the Regional Tournament, Zeb hit .500, recording two hits in every game except for one.  Austin Martin hit .304 on the season and hit 10 doubles of his own. Martin turned it on toward the end of the year, hitting .353 in the regional tournament for the Blackhawks. Defensively, Martin recorded the third least passed balls in the last 13 years of Southeastern baseball and threw out runners at an astounding 33%.  The University of Iowa is coming off of one of its most historic seasons of all-time. The Hawkeyes went 39-22 and claimed their first Big Ten Tournament title in school history. Iowa has made the NCAA Regional Tournament two of the last three seasons.

 

Jacob Curry – RHP

Jacob is signing with the University of North Carolina – Greensboro. As a freshman for the Blackhawks Jacob was 3-1 with a 4.74 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 38 innings. In his last start of the season, Curry pitched five innings of two hit baseball allowing just one run and seven strikeouts in a semi-final game to move into the championship round of the regional. Including the regional game, Curry ended his season pitching 11 innings of one run baseball.

North Carolina Greensboro is also coming off of an NCAA Regional appearance as the Conference Champions in the Southern Conference. The Spartans were 36-24 on the season and are consistently ranked in the top 40 in college baseball rankings.

 

Braeden Brown- INF

Braeden is signing with South Dakota State. As a freshman for the Blackhawks, Braeden hit .335 with 14 homeruns, 51 RBI and 61 runs scored. His 14 homeruns were enough to lead the ICCAC. Braeden will join former Blackhawks Otis Roby and Phil Velez in South Dakota. Brown had his biggest game of the year in the conference tournament hitting three homeruns in a 10-0 win against Kirkwood in the Regional Tournament.

The Jackrabbits finished 26-24 and in third place in the Summit League. Braeden will join one of the better offensive teams in the Summit League with the Jacks finishing in second in runs scored, homeruns and batting average on the year last year.

 

Bryan Callaly-RHP

Bryan is signining with Marshall University. Appearing in 24 games as a  freshman for the Blackhawks, Callaly was 1-0 with a 3.81 ERA and 27 strikeouts to his 26 innings pitched. Of his last twelve appearances for the Blackhawks, Callaly only gave up runs in three of them. Callaly was a big piece of a shutdown bullpen in 2017.

The Thundering Herd were 25-29 on the season last year, playing their games in the highly competitive Conference USA. In 2016, Marshall was 21-9 in the conference and 34-21 on the season to finish second in the conference. Last season, Conference USA boasted 32 draft picks, most among non power five conferences.
