SOUTHEASTERN CLAIMS 2 SEED IN DII BASEBALL REGION 11 TOURNAMENT

WEST BURLINGTON - The Southeastern baseball team wrapped up their regular season Monday night with wins over Carl Sandburg 17-9, and 6-4. The Blackhawks finished 41-18 (23-10 in conference), marking their third consecutive season with 40+ wins. Southeastern is tied for the best record in region 11 DII baseball but loses the head to head tiebreaker with Kirkwood, claiming the second overall seed in the DII tournament.

The Blackhawks receive a bye and await the winner of the nationally ranked Iowa Central Tritons, and the NIACC Trojans Friday night in the second round of the DII Region 11 tournament. The Blackhawks will play at 11:00 AM at Harlan Rodgers stadium in Fort Dodge. This weekend's tournament is double elimination, with the championship being played on Sunday. The Blackhawks enter the tournament on a 6 game winning streak as they look to defend their Region 11 title from a year ago. Last season, the Blackhawks defeated Iowa Central 5-2 in the Championship. Southeastern would then win the North Plains District Championship, and continue on to place second in the nation.

Among the other DII Region 11 teams, the Blackhawks at the plate rank second in batting average (.320), runs (475), and hits (595). Additionally, the Blackhawks rank third in RBIs (415) and walks (246). The Blackhawks have a dangerous batting lineup led by Abrahan Rios, Cole Smith, Caleb Wulf, Kooper Schulte, Michael Farina, and Sam Skarich, who all bat above .300. On the mound, the Blackhawks have the second lowest ERA in the conference (5.03).
