(OTTUMWA) — Will the real Southeastern Community College men's basketball team please show up?

The Blackhawks certainly did just that Saturday evening in the second game of the Financial Partners Classic at the Hellyer Student Life Center.

Miganeh Abdi came off the bench to knock down five 3-pointers on his way to 17 points and Diew Moses rebounded from an uncharacteristically bad shooting night on Friday to score 13 as the 14th-ranked Blackhawks pulled away for a 71-65 victory over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

Coming off a lackluster performance in a 68-60 loss to 23rd-ranked Coffeyville just 24 hours early, SCC showed the kind of energy and effort head coach Lorenzo Watkins was looking for.

"It's the character of our guys. I tell them I am always going to evaluate how they react to adversity. That's what life is about. How are you going to respond? Are you going to fold or are you going to come back?" Watkins said of his postgame radio show. "It was a total team effort tonight. From top to bottom our guys did their jobs. I'm proud of our guys' effort tonight."

SCC (7-1) led by as many as five points in the opening 10 minutes as Moses, who was 0 for 10 from the field on Friday, got out to a fast start.

"The Diew we saw tonight is the Diew we know," Watkins said. "He's our energy guy. He gets us going."

Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (2-4), a national tournament qualifier last season,used a 5-0 run to forge a 29-24 lead late in the first half before a pair of treys by Abdi sandwiched around a layup by Elias Ezenekwe helped the Blackhawks take a 32-21 lead into halftime.

The Golden Norsemen took their final lead at 43-42 as their leading scorer, Rudi Williams, began to heat up after starting the game on the bench. He would finish with a game-high 20 points.

A Moses basket from the right block gave SCC a 44-43 leadand started an 8-0 run, punctuated by another of Abdi's five 3-pointers on the night.

"He's one of those guys who when he gets it goind, you have to find him," Watkins said of Abdi.

SCC led by as many as 10 points down the stretch and held on for a victory it needed.

"I told the guys we are going to score. If we play good defense, rebound and take care of the ball, we are going to be OK," Watkins said. "This was a great team win tonight."

SCC now gets a week off before traveling to play 12th-ranked Moberly (5-2) at 7 p.m. on Nov. 23 at Fitzsimmons-John Arena in Moberly, Missouri.
