Lorenzo Watkins enters his 7th season as the Head Men's Basketball coach at Southeastern and his 16th season overall, after previously coaching at South Carolina State. Prior to South Carolina State, Watkins served one season as an assistant coach at Campbell University. While at Campbell, Watkins was instrumental in the development of the Fighting Campbell program.

Before Campbell, Watkins spent one season as an assistant coach under current Texas A&M Head Coach Buzz Williams at the University of New Orleans. During his stint at UNO, the Privateers won 14 games overall and went 9-9 in the Sun Belt Conference. Watkins had also previously spent time as an assistant at Sacramento State, where he helped lead the Hornets to their first Big Sky Tournament semifinal appearance since joining the conference in 1996.

Before moving to the NCAA Division I ranks, Watkins spent four seasons as the head coach at Indian Hills. The Warriors posted a 94-36 record from 2001-2005, averaging 24 wins per season. During the four-year tenure as head coach of the Warriors, 17 of Watkins’ players signed with NCAA Div. I programs. Watkins spent six years total at Indian Hills, serving as assistant coach for two seasons. He was an assistant on the 1998-99 Indian Hills team that won the NJCAA Div. I National Championship.

Watkins played two years for Idaho State before earning his B.A. degree in social work in 1997. He started all 55 games in which he appeared in at Idaho State and averaged 14.1 points per game for his career with the Bengals. An All- Big Sky Conference selection as a junior while averaging 16.2 ppg, Watkins led the Bengals in three-pointers made each season and ranks fifth all-time at Idaho State with 116 career treys. Watkins helped lead the Bengals to an 18-9 record and a Big Sky championship game appearance in the 1993-1994 season.

Watkins played two years at Indian Hills for head coach Terry Carroll from 1991-1993 and was a two-time, All-Region XI guard for the Warriors. He was a member of the first Indian Hills team to qualify for the NJCAA Div. I National Tournament in 1993 and finished 4th. Watkins is a native of Portsmouth, VA and is a 1991 graduate of Craddock High School.  Coach Watkins is married to former Sara Noe of Eldon, Iowa. They have four boys; Quincy, Mason, Landon, Trey and one daughter, Olaundria.
