SOUTHEASTERN DEFEATS MARSHALLTOWN IN TOUGH ICCAC MATCHUP

WEST BURLINGTON - The Southeastern men won a close matchup Wednesday when they went head-to-head with the Marshalltown Tigers.

The first half was a defensive matchup, where both teams took turn possessing the ball through their back line. Each team attempted to advance the ball to their scorers, but could not find the right combination to put the ball in the net.

After a scoreless first half Marshalltown put an impressive attack together, where a pass would travel through SCC's backline finding an attacker who took advantage of the 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper and scored, however the goal would be negated by an offside penalty. The Blackhawks would then find themselves with a corner kick, where the ball would deflect back out to SCC's Jordi Masegosa who reset the ball and struck a perfect shot from the edge of the box, finding the back of the net and putting the Blackhawks up 1-0.

The Tigers played with some desperation from there, as they knew they needed to even the score before the final whistle. SCC successfully stopped an attack and advanced the ball to sophomore Luis Torres, who led a one-man counter attack dodging several defenders and scoring the second goal for the Blackhawks.

Southeastern then held on to the lead, and emerged victors in a 2-0 bout.

Southeastern is now 4-4 (1-1 CONF). Southeastern's next matchup will be this Saturday against Western Iowa Tech.
