Women’s Soccer Beat NIACC 3-2 To Move Into Second Place

West Burlington, IA-

With only a couple minutes remaining in the match, Delfina Rossi centered the ball to Erii Yamashita, who headed in a dramatic game winning goal.  To the Lady Blackhawks, the victory over NIACC might have just seemed like another win in their recent hot streak that has seen the Blackhawks win three of their last four contests.  However, the match had more significance than just moving the ladies into a three-way conference tie for second place.  The match was the inaugural conference match to be played at the Fun City Turf Complex.

"The turf has been a great asset to our program.  The facility provides a great atmosphere for practices and training.  It also allows us the opportunity to continue our skill development in the winter months.  Until now, we have only played scrimmages and some pre-season contests in the turf complex.  In season we try to play outside as much as possible because the speed of the game is a bit faster on turf and we want to simulate our game conditions as much as possible whenever we can.  With that being said, it is great to have such a quality facility when the weather turns and we need to get a match in to remain on schedule with the season.  Our teams love playing in the turf and everyone we have played there has been very pleased with the atmosphere and the unique experience." – Coach Zach Newton

Multiple players have contributed points during the first three conference matches.  Most notably are the scoring contributions of Erii Yamashita (3 goals, 2 assists), Isabela Barbosa Caldeira Dias (3 goals), Julia Xavier (2 goals, 2 assists), Giovanni Pedrassani (1 goal, 1 assist), and Delfina Rossi (1 goal, 1 assist).  Four other Blackhawks have contributed at least one goal or assist thus far in conference competition (Taira Shimata, Shannon O'Connor-Cremin, Ana Cecilia, and Sarah Morris).
