Baseball Weekend Recap

(Harriman,TN)- The Southeastern baseball squad had another successful trip south over the weekend going 3-1 in the Raider Invitational hosted by Roane State Community College.  The Blackhawks split a pair of tilts against Parkland Community College and won two against tournament host Roane State to finish out the weekend.

In game one, the Blackhawks fell to Parkland in extra innings 3-2 after a throwing error allowed Parkland to score all the way from first to win the game.  Kyle Amendt took the loss for the Blackhawks, allowing 1 unearned runs in 2 1/3 innings of work, while striking out four.  Chase Keeney had a solid start for the Blackhawks in a losing effort, allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings while surrendering just five hits.  The freshman was on cruise control for most of the day, but ran into trouble in the 6th before giving way to the bullpen.  The Blackhawk bats couldn't get going on the day, totaling just five hits for the contest.  Carlos Pinyero led the way at the plate going 2-4 with a single and a triple in the contest.

After a rough start to the weekend, Coach Schulte's squad responded the following day, with a 5-3 victory over Parkland in a rematch of the day prior.  Freshman Logan Agan got the win for the Blackhawks giving up three runs in 5+ innings of work while striking out eight. Josh Hoffman came on in relief and shut the door on the Cobras to earn his first save on the young season.  Hoffman didn't allow a run in his two innings of work and surrendered just two hits.  The Blackhawks bats stayed mostly quiet, but were opportunistic in taking advantage of four Parkland errors on the day.  Sophomore Carlos Pinyero had a hit and scored two runs and Sophomore Oliver Regalado had an RBI double in the first inning to lead the way for the Blackhawks

KY Hampton got the start in the afternoon tilt, dominating Roane State, allowing just 2 runs on six hits in 7 1/3 innings of work.  Hampton also tallied eight strikeouts in the contest keeping the Raiders bats at bay all afternoon.  Unfortunately, Hampton's effort earned him a no decision as the Blackhawks once again struggled offensively and the game was tied at 2-2 when it was suspended due to darkness after 8 innings of play.  However, when the game was concluded the following morning, the offensive responded in a big way in the top of the 9th.  Freshman catcher Shane Campbell doubled in the right center gap to score Juan Martin from first who reached on a wild pitch to give the Blackhawks a 3-2 lead.   Carlos Medina immediately followed that up with a two-run bomb over the left field fence to push the lead to 5-2.  Amendt, who came in with one out in the 8th inning the previous day, returned to the bump the following morning and shut the door, earning his first win of the season.  He recorded the final five outs without giving up a hit and tallying a pair of strikeouts en route to the Blackhawks second victory of the weekend.

In the weekend finale against Roane State, the offensive outburst continued for the Blackhawks,  as they racked up 12 runs on 17 hits leading the way to a 12-5 victory.  Lincoln Riley paced all hitters going three-for-five with three RBI's and scored three times.  Oliver Regalado also added three hits and Oscar Sanabria and Carlos Pinyero had two hits apiece. Sophomore Jacob Bockenstedt earned his second victory of the season going 5 2/3 innings and allowing five runs while surrendering just six hits.  Lucas Bixby chipped in 2 1/3 of scoreless relief striking out three and allowing just two hits and Dalton Boecker threw a scoreless ninth to finish out the victory.

After the 3-1 record over the weekend, Southeastern's record now stands at 7-1 on the young season.  The Blackhawks are back in action starting Friday in the Babe Howard Juco Classic in Millington, Tennessee.
