Blackhawks Edge Defending Champs

(West Burlington, IA) - Sophomore Elias Ezenekwe and freshman Carlos Lemus Jr. each scored 17 points as the Southeastern Blackhawks knocked off the Kirkwood Eagles, 74-69 on Saturday night in the finale of the Broadway Classic. Ezenekwe got the Blackhawks off to a quick start, scoring seven of SCC's first 11 points. The game went back and forth until Kirkwood ended the half on a 12-3 run to take a 38-33 lead at the break. The halftime deficit was the first time the Blackhawks trailed entering the break in the young season. SCC opened the second half with a three from Diew Moses but Kirkwood would regain control, opening their largest lead of the night on a Luke Appel three with a 16:46 left in the game, pushing the Kirkwood advantage to 45-36. The Blackhawks would whittle the lead down, eventually pulling to within two on a fade-away Carlos Lemus jumper, cutting the Kirkwood lead to 60-58 with 6:11 to play. SCC tied the game at 62 on a Boubacar Kamissoko layup with 3:41 to go. It was the first time the game was tied since the 3-3 at 17:29 of the first half. After Southeastern took the lead on a Lemus three with 1:36 to play, Kamissoko hit a corner three to extend the lead to four points as the Blackhawks went on to beat Kirkwood 74-69. SCC hits the road for the first time this season as they head to Sedalia, Missouri to partake in the Iowa/Missouri Challenge at State Fair Community College. The Blackhawks will play Missouri State-West Plains at 2:00 on Friday afternoon.
