Men's Basketball Players Earn ICCAC All-Region Honors

FOR RELEASE - The Region XI Division I Men's Basketball All-Region teams were announced on Monday, headlined by the Indian Hills Warriors, who received six selections, including three first teamers and the Player of the Year. 

The Warriors won the Region XI Championship for the sixth time in seven years. Point guard Chris Childs was tagged as the ICCAC Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Year and a First Team selection. He was the team's second leading scorer overall scoring 14.4 points per game and 12.4 per game in conference play. A consistent scoring threat, only five times in 31 games did he fail to reach double digits. 

Efficiently, he shot 45-percent from both the field and three-point range, and was a near 90% free throw shooter. He added 3 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game. 

Joining Childs on First Team were guard Tyon Grant-Foster and forward Chris Payton

Grant-Foster, a versatile wing heading to the University of Kansas, was the team's leading scorer all season at 16.1 points per game. In conference play alone, he put up 13.4 points per game, was fifth in rebounding at 5.9 per game and led the league in blocks with 13. 

Down low, Payton performer great in conference play. In eight ICCAC games he put up 16 points a night. He averaged 6.3 rebounds and shot a league best 72.1 from the field. 

Hank Plona was voted Coach of the Year after leading Indian Hills a 29-3 record and the Region XI Championship. Indian Hills is hoping to make their seventh consecutive NJCAA Tournament appearance.

Iowa Western's Josiah Strong had an outstanding season that led to his First Team honors. He was second in the conference in scoring behind Northeast's Emmette Page (19.7) at 17.6 points per game and most overall points with 141 in eight games. Overall he shot 49% from the field and 46% from three. He averaged just under four rebounds a night. 

Rounding out the First Team selections was Southeastern's forward Aaris Bonds. Bonds led the league in rebounding at 9.5 per night during conference play to go along with his team leading 17 points. He led the conference in field goals made (60) and was second in field goal percentage at 61.9%.
