BLACKHAWKS SPLIT WITH DMACC IN WEDNESDAY DOUBLE HEADER

WEST BURLINGTON - Southeastern softball had a memorable outing Wednesday afternoon as they hosted the DMACC Bears at the Turf.

The Blackhawks fell in game one, 2-1 to the bears, largely in part to the pitching performance of DMACC's Courtney Donahue. Donahue allowed only 1 run to the Blackhawks, that being a solo home run to Lauren Summers in the bottom of the seventh inning. Through the game, the Blackhawks only earned two hits off of Donahue, coming back to back in the seventh between Lauren Summers and Duanna Coyle. The DMACC Bears closed out the final inning of the game striking out the final 3 batters for the Blackhawks.

Navy Clark had one of her best performances on the mound for the Blackhawks this season, allowing only two runs through seven innings against the nationally ranked Bears. Clark recorded 6 strikeouts in game one, facing twenty-nine batters.

Game two took a much different turn for the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks found themselves knotted at 3-3 with the Bears in the bottom of the fourth inning before Lauren Summers took a 2-2 pitch to right center field for a grand slam. After Summers' massive hit the Blackhawks poured on 3 more runs, blowing the game open to a 10-3 lead. Southeastern's pitching crew provided another solid outing in game two, allowing only eight runs through seven innings. Abby Odean led the Blackhawks through 4.0 innings, allowing 5 hits and 3 runs. Navy Clark came in as relief, and pitched a solid 3.0 innings allowing 0 runs. The Bears made an effort in the seventh, loading the bases just before Marianne Labelle made a leaping grab in left center field for out two, followed by the throw to third to get the out on a runner for the Bears who left early, ending the game.

The Blackhawks sit at 13-9 on the season headed into this weekend's matchup with Indian Hills (15-11) in Ottumwa.
