SOUTHEASTERN SOFTBALL CLAIMS 5 WINS IN OPENING WEEKEND

WEST BURLINGTON - The Southeastern Community College softball team had an impressive start to their season as they competed in their opening weekend tournament hosted by the Turf. The team managed to secure five wins and only suffered one loss, showcasing their talent and determination on the field.One standout player from the tournament was Maggie Vasa, who had an outstanding performance throughout the weekend. Vasa recorded an impressive nine doubles and 15 hits, proving to be a leader for the team. Her offensive prowess helped propel SCC to victory in several games and demonstrated her skill at the plate. Vasa's 9 doubles is tied for second in the country in Division I softball, and only 1 behind first place. 

In addition to Vasa's standout performance, the team also showed their resilience and ability to come through in clutch situations. SCC managed to secure two walk-off wins during the tournament, showcasing their ability to perform under pressure and come through in critical moments. In the final game of the weekend against Rock Valley, SCC found themselves down 8-4 headed into the final inning before rattling off 5 runs, with a walk-off double by Lauren Summers to secure the victory.

The Blackhawks scored 5 or more runs in each one of their games, and recorded many extra base hits throughout the tournament. Pitchers Duanna Coyle, Lauren Summers, and Navy Clark led the Blackhawks on the mound, rotating throughout the weekend. Navy Clark recorded 16.1 innings pitched. In those 16.1 innings, Navy recorded 14 strikeouts, the most on the team thus far. The Blackhawks will look to get healthier on the mound this season, as injuries have sidelined several of their players. 

SCC's next game is March 1st, as they travel to Springfield, MO to compete at the Drury Classic.
