SOUTHEASTERN HOLDS ON VS. MARSHALLTOWN, EARNS SECOND CONFERENCE WIN

WEST BURLINGTON - Southeastern women's basketball outlasted Marshalltown Tuesday night, coming away with a 43-42 victory at the end of regulation.

This contest was a make-up game due to inclement weather earlier this month.

Southeastern dug themselves an early hole in the first quarter, finding themselves down 19-7 to Marshalltown after several baskets from downtown for the Tigers.

Southeastern battled back in the second quarter, controlling the glass and taking advantage of points in the paint. Princess Ibeh had several strong moves inside for the Blackhawks, pulling them within 2 at the end of the first half. At the break, the Tigers led the Blackhawks 26-24.

The Blackhawks immediately took a 28-26 lead following the break, but the Tigers continued to battle down the stretch. The Blackhawks had several strong defensive stands in the third quarter, as their 1-3-1 zone proved difficult for the Tigers to beat. At the end of the third, the Blackhawks led the Tigers, 38-34.

The Blackhawks continued their 1-3-1 look in the fourth quarter, looking to minimize the opportunities to take outside shots from the wing, which the Tigers had taken advantage of. The Tigers strung together back-to-back buckets in the fourth, regaining the lead 39-38 with 8 minutes to play. In the final 8 minutes of the contest, there would only be 8 more points between the two teams. After several crucial stops down the stretch, the Blackhawks prevailed 43-42. Several trips to the line came up empty for the Tigers in the fourth, with help due to the Blackhawks' student section.

The Blackhawks were led in scoring by Princess Ibeh who scored 23 points, followed by Danajah Peterson with 9. The Blackhawks are back in action tonight against Southwestern Community College in Keokuk, with another opportunity to gain a conference win.
