KEIFER NEW MEN AND WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD COACH AT SCC

West Burlington – Lucas Keifer, former Head Coach at Averett University enters his first year as the Head Men and Women's Track and Field Coach at Southeastern.  The program will begin its first season for the fall 2020.  While at Averett, Keifer was a pivotal factor in the development of the Cougars running program. In two years at Averett he was able to help athletes break school records, acquire team GPA's above 3.0 and spent time with the team volunteering in the community at the local humane society. While serving as the Head Coach he also earned his M.ED in Curriculum and Instruction.

Keifer is excited about starting the track and field program at Southeastern.  "First of all, I want to thank Tyler Gaston and President Dr. Ash for this wonderful opportunity. It's a very exciting time to be named as Southeastern's first Track Coach. Working alongside Head Cross Country Mike Polley is something I am looking forward to. Polley has a great vision for his runners and has done great things in just two years. I have a tremendous amount of respect for all of Southeastern's staff and am grateful to walk into a positive experience."

Keifer competed at two Division 1 schools and finished his career while completing his B.A. at NAIA Hastings College. Keifer is a native of Lincoln, NE and moved to West Burlington with his girlfriend Skyler Brown of Des Moines, Iowa.

Southeastern Athletic Director Tyler Gaston is ready to move forward in building the track program. "I believe that Lucas will be a good fit for our new program.  He is young and energetic.  I think that potential student-athletes will be able to relate to him and his personality will serve him well in the recruiting battle.  On paper, Lucas concisely presented himself as experienced, capable, and passionate, earning himself the opportunity to interview.  As a finalist, he separated himself by articulating a clear vision for a new program and by how he planned to lead and mentor young adults.  I am excited to see how Lucas builds our newest athletic program here at SCC."
