Lydia Zaruba – Southeastern – Freshman – Center Field
Freshman Lydia Zaruba from Grimes, Iowa scored 11 runs this past week while batting .650. Getting hits 13 times in 23 at-bats, Zaruba was only struckout once in a six-game stretch. In that same period she has also picked up seven stolen bases. She has been off to a great start as the Blackhawks have begun the season 11-4 and won all six games they played this past week. Through the first 15 games Zaruba has a .510 batting average and has scored 20 runs with 12 stolen bases.
Araceli Rivas – Southeastern – Sophomore – RHP
Sixteen innings and 32 strikeouts, Southeastern sophomore Araceli Rivas has begun her second year with the Blackhawks in great form. Not only did she amass strikeouts but she did not allow a single run in those sixteen innings. She gave up only four hits and two walks in shutting down opposing batters. That put her batting average against (BAA) at an incredible .077 for those six games. On the season she has a 2.54 earned run average and has 54 total strikeouts in 41.1 innings.
