A Burlington connection helped the Southeastern Community College Women's Soccer team to victory Saturday at Bracewell Stadium.

The team came from behind to claim a 4-3 win against Northwest Community College in the first conference game of the season and improved their overall record to 3-5.

The team started the game fast, but then gave up two quick goals. They regrouped and scored before halftime on a long shot by Hunter Pender (Burlington) that was tipped in by Myah Rehman (Burlington).

"We needed a goal and it gave us a little bit of momentum," said Rehman. "I've been playing with her for a decent amount so it's good chemistry."

The two played together at Burlington High School and along with three other players which makes a total of five former Grayhounds on the Blackhawks. Freshman players Hunter Pender along with her twin, Traeh Pender, and Kingsley Miller joined Sophomore's Rehman and Emma Rohrer on the 2025-26 team.

"Our Burlington connection plays a vital role in connecting the team, both on and off the field," said coach Emily Murphy. "They help foster a sense of unity and create a family atmosphere. We're trying to build a strong culture here, and they're a big part of that."

That connection gelled in the second half when Hunter took over the game.

Northwest began the half strong and then SCC flipped the field and Hunter scored on break away at the 50 minute mark. Shortly after at 58 minutes Hunter scored another goal again from the left side and SCC took a 4-2 lead.

Both scores came on passes from Servane Veyrac (Guyancourt, France).

"It felt like high school. It really brought back memories, especially being at Bracewell. It felt pretty good," said Hunter Pender. "It felt good helping my team out. I'm very proud of the entire team."

They kept the pressure on and Hunter scored again on a penalty kick to give her a hat trick for the match and a 4-2 lead.

"Hunter has been outstanding—her ability to finish goals in clutch moments has been huge for us and plays a key role in boosting our confidence."

Northwest scored a goal late for the final score of 4-3.

Next up is another conference match Saturday at Iowa Lakes Community College. The team returns home Oct. 1 against conference foe Hawkeye Community College.
