BLACKHAWKS OPEN SEASON WITH WEEKEND SWEEP OVER CARL SANDBURG, MALCOLM X COLLEGE

WEST BURLINGTON - Southeastern Men's Basketball started the season out right with wins over Carl Sandburg and Malcolm X College. These games took place in the Fun City Classic, which the Blackhawks hosted Firday and Saturday night.

The Blackhawks started out hot in their first game of the season against Carl Sandburg, jumping out to a lead of 11-3 courtesy of a Raphael Gay steal and emphatic dunk just 3 minutes into the game. The Blackhawks continued to apply the pressure, extending the lead to 42-24 at halftime. The Blackhawks demonstrated a strong performance on the defensive end, leading to several fast break opportunities that SCC took advantage of. The second half was no different, increasing the Blackhawks' score to 31 points with 4:33 to go in the game. All 13 Blackhawks scored in their opening win Friday night. The Blackhawks were led in scoring by Olajuwon Ibrahim, who recorded 18 points and 5 rebounds. 

The Blackhawks continued their strong weekend with a 46-point victory over Malcolm X College Saturday afternoon. The Blackhawks demonstrated their ability to press Malcolm X College, as they created 16 steals. Once again, all 13 Blackhawks contributed in scoring for SCC. Ajani Blyden led the Blackhawks in scoring with 16 points, followed by Jacob Franklin with 14 points, and Prince Oviawe with 13 points. The Blackhawks improved to 2-0 on the season headed into their matchup with Harry S. Truman College Wednesday, October 8th. Each team is undefeated headed into Wednesday's matchup, as Harry S. Truman is 1-0 with a win over Oakton College.
