BLACKHAWKS FALL SHORT TO NIACC WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

WEST BURLINGTON - The Southeastern Blackhawks took their third loss of the season Wednesday 2-1 to NIACC. With the loss, the Blackhawks move to 1-3 on the year.

Both sides had trouble finding the back of the net in the first half as the game went scoreless until the 51st minute when NIACC put together a strong attack to go up 1-0. NIACC kept their foot on the gas and scored just 2 minutes later, extending their lead to 2-1. The Blackhawks would not go down without a fight, and found their first score in the 62nd minute on a shot from Sharon Barrantes (assisted by Isabel Bernal). The Blackhawks' goal sparked an offensive run towards the end of the second half. ICCAC Athlete of the Week Jace Herman along with teammate Sharon Barrantes led an attack in the middle leading to several shots in the final 20 minutes.

In the end, it was the NIACC Trojans who outlasted the Blackhawks 2-1.

The Blackhawks put 9 shots on goal Wednesday afternoon, but were only able to find the net once. SCC goalkeeper Marlin Beltran finished the game with 2 saves.

The Blackhawks travel to Iowa Lakes Saturday to take on the Lakers in the opening of conference play. Iowa Lakes' record entering this match is 3-2-1.
