SCC VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS ICCAC NEWCOMER WESTERN IOWA TECH

WEST BURLINGTON - Southeastern defeated Western Iowa Tech (WIT) Wednesday night by a score of 3-0.

This is the Blackhawks' first matchup with Western Iowa Tech, who just joined the ICCAC this year.

The game was a battle for both sides throughout the entire match. In the first set the teams found themselves tied at until the very end before the Blackhawks became the eventual winners, 27-25.

The next set was a different story as the Blackhawks jumped out to early leads of 9-2, and 21-13. The Blackhawks had the chance to put WIT away as they led 24-19 before the Comets pulled off a 4-0 run, making the score 24-23. A timeout by Coach Glass refocused the Blackhawks, as they were able to take the set on the next point thanks to an Isabelle Ritter tip just barely finding the floor and dodging a dig by an outstretched WIT player.

The third and final set proved the Blackhawks had found their groove, as they coasted to a victory 25-19, and swept the match 3-0. Brianna Hernandez and Penelope Johnson had several nice kills from the front middle, and Brianna Hernandez poured it on with 4 aces in the match. Isabelle Ritter, Hailey Flores, and Lillian Simpson had 8, 8, and 9 kills respectively, leading the team.

The Blackhawks' next games are this Friday against Heartland and Vincennes at the Parkland College Fall Challenge. The Blackhawks are currently 8th in the conference, just behind Marshalltown.
