BLACKHAWKS DEFEAT MARSHALLTOWN 3-1, CELEBRATE SCHAERRER SURPASSING 2,000 CAREER ASSISTS

WEST BURLINGTON - Southeastern volleyball defeated Marshalltown Thursday night by a score of 3-1. Thursday's win is the 21st of the season for the Blackhawks, as they move to 21-14.

On Thursday night the Blackhawks also honored Lamecia Schaerrer for surpassing 2,000 career assists in the Blackhawks' 3-1 win over Lincoln Land on September 30th. Lamecia Schaerrer is currently the national leader for assists with 1,204 on the season.

The Blackhawks started the first set hot as Lamecia Schaerrer went on a run of service aces, pushing the score to 4-0 in favor of the Blackhawks. Marshalltown rallied back, taking the lead 12-10 midway through the 1st set. Eventually, it was the Blackhawks who prevailed in the first set 25-16, courtesy of another string of services aces by Lamecia Schaerrer.

In the second set the Tigers showed their ability on the front line, blocking several attack attempts from the Blackhawks and setting up a nice string of attacks themselves. The Tigers would win this set by a score of 25-20.

The third set was back and forth as each team traded critical points. In the end it was several nice runs by the Blackhawks, and several service errors for the Tigers that solidified an SCC win in the third.

In the last set, it was all Blackhawks. SCC outscored the Tigers 25-9, securing their 21st win of the season.

The Blackhawks are currently 6th in the ICCAC, and play host to Kirkwood next Wednesday night in what will be a major ICCAC matchup.
