(West Burlington, IA)-SCC Assistant Volleyball Coach Danielle Coronado is the recipeint of the 2019 AVCA Diversity Award. In order to win this award a receipient must either be nominated or apply and it must be their first time attending the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Convention. Coach Coronado was nominated by her former coach, Sara Horn at Iowa Central Community College. Coronado received notification from the AVCA Diversity Team who had this to say, "On behalf of the AVCA Diversity Development Team and Chair, Coach Nickie Sanlin, we are excited to have you be a part of the prestigious program and look forward to seeing you in Pittsburgh. The award includes complimentary Pre-Convention & Full Registration Package to the 2019 AVCA Convention, five (5) nights of hotel accommodations at the AVCA Convention headquarter hotel, and a slate of coaching education programming and activities for all of the AVCA Diversity Award participants". "I was shocked when I read the email and was almost confused because I knew I did not sign up for the convention. I immediately called Coach Horn and asked her about it and she said it was her. I thanked her over and over because she is like family to me and has helped me get to where I am at today. And for her to think of me immediately means everything to me, she is one of the biggest mentors I have," says Coronado. "I am so honored to have this opportunity to go learn and build up my coaching skills. I get to learn from the best of the best as well as build up my connections and not many people get this opportunity. It is truly a once in a life time opportunity and I have all my previous coaches, Coach Glass, and my family to thank for where I am at today."
